Annette Funicello's dancing partner was discovered on the streets of Fullerton California by Walt Disney when she was just 13 years of age. Funicello did not get an audition when she joined in the Mickey Mouse Club cast in the first season, much at her Mickey Mouse Club colleagues' displeasure. Disney did the right thing since she swiftly gained prominence as The Mickey Mouse Club's top performer with her personal Adventures in Dairyland storyline. Funicello's potential as a teenager star was quickly realized. Disney hired Tutti Camerata who was a seasoned arranger to help her launch her career as a recording artist. Annette, however, was not too thrilled about Funicello singing. Funicello was a fan of making albums, and she worked alongside Camerata who was one of the few arrangers of forty years old that era, who knew the foundations of early music. Annette Sings Anka - her third album - was probably the very first to use the music of an artist from the rock genre as selection of songs. Funicello was the star of Beach Party, one of five films about beach parties which were hugely successful. The majority of the time, they were co-starring Frankie Avalon, these films were produced by AIP but the scripts for each film have been personally approved and read by Walt Disney to maintain Annette's clear appearance.
